It is important that while you are at the golf course you are abiding by the rules of the game as well as the specific guidelines enforced by the course. Proper etiquette is intended to create a positive experience for all golfers. Here are a few ways you can make sure that you are on top of what can and cannot be done on the course:
Be on Time
The more punctual you are the better! Getting to the course well before your tee time gives you plenty of time to check-in get situated and prepare for the round ahead. A round of golf is supposed to be enjoyed so having to scramble to get to the first tee is not the best way to start your round. Give yourself plenty of time to put your shoes on, hit some range balls and practice putts, and grab a snack. You may even be able to get out on the course early. Arriving early also allows time for a proper warm-up, which is crucial for avoiding common mistakes; learn more in our article on Common Mistakes Golf Beginners Often Make.
Be Courteous of the other people around you
There’s no need to yell or run while you’re playing golf. Golf is supposed to be relaxing. That doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy music or the occasional celebration, but you should make sure that everyone in your group is ok with it and you should never impose upon the other groups around you. You don’t need to act like you’re walking on eggshells while at the golf course just be respectful of everyone else playing.
Maintain Pace of Play
Keep up with the group in front of. This is just another reminder that you are not the only one playing the course. You can do this by making sure you’re ready to hit when it’s your turn. Figure out what yardage you’d like to hit your shot and which club you’ll need while the person before you is playing. Begin reading your putt before it’s your turn. By doing all of these things consistently you’ll easily be able to keep up with the group in front of you and avoid getting spoken to by the course ambassador.
